Home for Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone! For the first time in four and a half years of marriage, Patrick and I were able to host Christmas Eve and Christmas morning--we did it in our own home, and for no one but ourselves. It was wonderful! Here's the rundown of our very tiny and very wonderful 2011 Christmas.

Our simple Christmas Eve--we told the Nativity story with some paper cutouts Cambrie got in  nursery and some paintings we have in the Gospel Art Kit book.

When Cambrie woke up on Christmas morning, this is what she saw. She woke us up, then daddy went in to turn on the Christmas lights and make sure everything was ready. What was behind the curtain?

Merry Christmas! (Yes, that is our little Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. I love that thing.)
Our stockings.

Our present table. Cambrie caught on pretty quickly that she wanted to know what was in those presents.

Santa's gift to Cambrie--an easel! (Dry erase on the other side.) There are markers and chalk in that little package in the tray.

Cambrie showing off the goodies in her stocking. Silly straws? Best idea ever. And yes, I did ask her to smile--you can tell by the painful cheesiness of it. She was genuinely excited, though.
Christmas breakfast--Pumpkin pancakes, sausage balls, and fruit. Patrick is requesting this become a permanent tradition.

As I was making pancakes, Cambrie ate the poptart she found in her stocking and drank milk with a silly straw. By the time the real breakfast was ready, she wanted nothing to do with it. She played with her easel the whole time, instead. I think she's pretty happy.
After Christmas morning was done, we lazed around for a bit, played with our gifts, then headed off to church, where we met with Patrick's parents and siblings. After church, it was familyfamilyfamily for the rest of the day, including more presents, a delicious dinner, and a hop skip and a jump over to his great-grandparent's home where the other half of his family was congregated. We had a lot of fun celebrating with everyone.

We love being with family, and it was really great that we were able to do that while still having a bit of Christmas to ourselves. We hope everyone else's holidays were just as wonderful!

Merry Christmas! your tree is so cute. Little fake trees are cute; big fake trees are just fake. Way to choose the right one! :) Also... I'm quite flattered that you pinned me onto pinterest! I am on there somewhere too...I haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet, but I re-pinned your to-do-jar idea. Oh, and the testimony books really are super neat, if you can convince your family to actually type their testimony up in time! I gave one to my little brother to take on his mission. Oh, and Cambrie is SUCH a little personality. I think Jay would like her.

Shaina, I've thought that Jay and Cambrie would get along, too. Now if only we didn't live on opposite sides of the country... :-)
